Two Oceans Marathon - 11 April 2009
The Two Oceans Marathon is known as 'The World's Most Beautiful Marathon' and for good reason - runners are taken from the lush, forested area of Newlands, past the beaches of Muizenberg and Fish Hoek all the way to the challenging Chapman’s Peak that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Hout Bay, over Constantia Nek to the University of Cape Town campus - 56 long kilometres.
The marathon was first run in 1970 with only 26 entrants but by 2008 over 20 000 athletes from all over the world took part. The route encompasses both flat road racing and some challenging mountain climbs with the notorious 'Suikerbossie Pass' causing the most stress and pain to the competitors!
Venue - Start at the bottom of Dean Street in Newlands. Finish on the University of Cape Town rugby fields, Groote Schuur Estate.
Time - 6.25 am
