Sea Point, Cape Town, Green Point
The Cape Town suburbs of Sea Point and Green Point are located on the Atlantic seaboard and run from the city centre all the way along the coastline as far as Mouille Point. Over the years the face of these two areas has changed immeasurably and today they are the favoured location of the young and trendy.
Sea Point has turned into an African-style New York with stylish apartment blocks rising all over the place. Eurocentres Language School has chosen Sea Point as the location for the school residence, so Sea Point and neighbouring Green Point will be your home away from home!
Home to the Gay Chic
Green Point is the closest to the city centre and the V&A Waterfront and it is internationally renowned as the preferred location of the gay community. Many gay clubs, restaurants and bars have opened their doors, with great success, along Somerset Road and hoards of beautiful people can be seen rocking the night away at Le Boy, Bronx and the Cruz Bar.
Focal point of 2010 FIFA World Cup
Green Point is also the site of one of the main venues for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the Green Point Common is under heavy construction and is hard at work on the Stadium, tipped to host one of the semi-finals of the biggest show on earth.
From haven to high-rise hell
Although there are many high rise apartment blocks that seem to crowd the area in Sea Point, the Promenade is a green belt enjoyed by all the area’s inhabitants. Sea Point beaches are not suitable for swimming but in the height of summer you can visit the Sea Point swimming pool located close by, so those who feel a little exercise is the order of the day will not be disappointed.
Safety
Sea Point residents, together with the City Council, fought back against crime and introduced strict measures, like CCTV camera surveillance and a strong police presence, which has made the area much safer. Today Sea Point is a pleasant middle-to-upper income area where guest houses, bed & breakfasts and boutique hotels.
